  Math Student Given Award of Excellence    
  -     On July 18, 2002, the Muhanna Foundation in Mathematics Award of Excellence was presented to      Mr. Mahmoud Hammoud at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science in Bliss Hall. Mr. Hammoud earned the $1,000 prize as the most outstanding senior Lebanese student in the Department of Mathematics. He graduated with distinction in July 2002 with an average of 92.3 in Mathematics. Professor Khalil M. Bitar, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, presented the award to Mahmoud in the presence of his father Abbas, Mr. Ibrahim Muhanna, chairman of the board of trustees of the Muhanna Foundation, Professor Abdallah Lyzzaik, chairman of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Dr. Imad Baalbaki, director of development, and Mr. Sadik Al Asa'ad, associate director of development.
      In presenting the honorary certificate and the check, Dean Bitar congratulated Mahmoud on his fine achievement, wishing him success in his graduate work and asking him to return to Lebanon thereafter. Mr. Muhanna, in turn, wished all the best for Mahmoud in his future studies and expressed his joy at contributing to the honoring of exceptional students.
