The implantation of prostheses is used to treat a variety of urological conditions, such as erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence.
As mentioned previously, erectile dysfunction can be treated by inserting a pump into the penis, which can be inflated to obtain an erection, among other prosthetic treatments. Also, an artificial sphincter can be implanted to treat urinary incontinence, and has had a high success rate with patients so far. Other prosthetic treatments exist for other conditions, and have had a marked improvement on the patient’s quality of life.
