This research project develops a close, deconstructive reading of four novels by the Lebanese writer, Elias Khoury. The research is informed by a strategy of reading these texts as sites for the negotiation and investment of variable economies of masculinity, femininity, and patriarchy -- related to themes of narrative, story, character, and language.
