The provost overseas the
academic affairs of each of the six faculties at AUB. Also, each dean
directs the academic activities of his/her own faculty and reports to
the provost.
- Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences
The Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, currently under the
deanship of Professor
Nahla Hwalla,
was founded in 1952. It offers graduate and undergraduate programs in
five specialties: agriculture, landscape and design and eco-management,
nutrition and dietetics, food science management, and veterinary sciences.
Upon purchasing a 100-hectar farm located 80 kilometers east of Beirut
in the Beqa'a, the University
established the Agricultural Research and Education Center (AREC) which
includes a research farm, staff residences, classrooms, a small library,
laboratories, men and women’s dormitories, a dining hall, and
recreational facilities.
- Faculty of Arts and Sciences
The Faculty of Arts and
Sciences, whose current dean is Professor
Khalil Bitar, was established in 1866. The faculty offers
excellent undergraduate programs leading to bachelor’s degrees as well
as graduate education leading to master’s degrees in most fields of arts
and sciences. When PhD programs were instated in spring 2007, the
Faculty of Arts and Sciences activated in fall 2007 PhD programs in Arab
and Middle Eastern history, Arabic language and literature, cell and
molecular biology, and theoretical physics.
- Faculty of Engineering and Architecture
The Faculty of Engineering
and Architecture became an independent entity from the Faculty of Arts
and Sciences in 1951. Nevertheless, the first bachelor program at the
University was founded as early as 1913. The faculty, whose current dean
is Professor
Ibrahim Hajj, has five main departments offering graduate and
undergraduate degrees. It offers bachelor’s of engineering in
architecture and design, civil and environmental engineering, electrical
and computer engineering, and mechanical engineering.
In addition to having an
engineering management program, the faculty offers degrees of master’s
in engineering with majors in computer and communications engineering;
electric power engineering; electronics, devices and systems,
environmental, and water resources engineering; and mechanical
engineering. In 1998 two additional programs were added: the degree of
Master of Urban Design and the degree of Master of Urban Planning.
In fall 2007 the faculty
started offering PhDs in civil engineering, environmental and water
resources management, electrical and computer engineering, and
mechanical engineering.
- Faculty of Health Sciences
The Faculty of Health
Sciences became an independent entity from the Faculty of Medicine with
the establishment of the School of Public Health in 1954, which became a
faculty in 1978. Under the deanship of Professor
Iman Nuwayhid
, the faculty offers both graduate and undergraduate
degrees. In 2006, its graduate program in public health has been
accredited by the Council on Education of Public Health in 2006.
Currently, the faculty hosts
four departments: Epidemiology and Population Health, Environmental
Health, Health Behavior and Education, Health Management and Policy, and
a Medical Laboratory Technology program in collaboration with the
Faculty of Medicine. The faculty offers a BS degree in health sciences,
and MS degrees in public health, epidemiology,
population health, and environmental sciences. It also
provides teaching of public health to medical students and residents at
the Faculty of Medicine.

Faculty of Medicine
Established in 1867, the
Faculty of Medicine and the AUB Medical Center provide services in
medical education, training, and health care in Lebanon and the Middle
East. The faculty, which also houses the School of Nursing, has an MD
program and offers an MS in Basic Medical Sciences and a combined MS-MD
program. The current dean of the faculty of medicine is Dr.
Nadim Cortas.

Suliman S. Olayan School of Business
As early as 1900, business
education started at the University and remained part of the Faculty of
Arts and Sciences until
September 2000 when AUB established an independent School of Business --
later named Suliman S. Olayan School of Business -- as the sixth faculty
at the University. As a result an entirely new curriculum was introduced
for the BBA and MBA degrees in fall 2001. Also, the Executive Master in
Business Administration (EMBA) followed in spring 2003–04 to cater to
the learning needs of senior corporate leaders in the region. The
current dean of the school of business is Professor
George Najjar.
