  PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering
  The PhD program in ECE provides high-quality doctoral education in electrical and computer engineering that prepares graduates for leadership in academic, industrial, or research positions.  Graduates of the PhD program are able to:
•  Demonstrate depth of knowledge in their specific area of research, and breadth in allied     areas of electrical and computer engineering
•  Identify and define research problems, and perform independent research
•  Demonstrate an ability to disseminate knowledge and to communicate effectively
•  Contribute to the existing knowledge in electrical and computer engineering.

  Admission Requirements
  Acceptance into the PhD program is highly selective.  Students must demonstrate exceptional academic ability and the potential to conduct original scholarly research.  The University requirements for graduate students may be found under ‘Catalogue’ at http://www.aub.edu.lb/~webregist/.  The application form may be obtained from the Admissions Office, or on line at http://www.aub.edu.lb/~webadmit/.
 In addition, applicants to this program must submit:

• Test scores from the general exam of the Graduate Record Examination
• A written statement of purpose
• Three letters of recommendation
• A portfolio that includes a resume and samples of work
• Moreover, interview with faculty members will be conducted in person, by phone, or over the Internet.
   
  Library Resources and Services
 

Students will have access to the University Libraries print and virtual collections. Jafet Library, the main library, is centrally located on campus, and has branch libraries in engineering, architecture, the pure and agricultural sciences.
Its holdings include over 600,000 volumes and a print journal collection of around 2500 titles and approximately 22,000 titles within electronic databases.

The books and journals cover topics such as direct energy conversion, transmission, electric lighting, lasers, fiber optics, electronics, pulse circuits, etc.
Of the virtual resources, The University Libraries subscribe to the following databases: ACM, IEEE, Inspec, as well as the ebrary, Safari and Knovel eBook packages, The Libraries subscribe to four major multidisciplinary online journal packages: Elsevier Science Direct, Blackwell Synergy, Kluwer /Springer Link and Wiley.

The services of the University Libraries include an active program of enrichment to support PhD programs, research assistance offered in classes and on an individual basis and Document Delivery Services for material not available in the collections

  Financial Support
 

Applicants to the PhD programs may apply for a PhD graduate assistantship. This assistantship is awarded on the basis of academic qualifications and the needs of the departments.  It may include up to a full tuition waiver and a stipend of up to $1000 a month for up to two semesters and a summer (12 months). Recipients are expected to assist in either research or teaching as part of their assistantships.
