Mission

To improve the quality of the University’s teaching and research programs and its academic support services through development and implementation, in cooperation with other senior administrative officers, of its academic and budgetary management and planning.

The Provost

The Provost is the chief academic officer responsible to the President for the conduct, coordination, and quality of the University's academic and research programs. The Provost seeks to actualize the academic potential of the university through development and implementation, in cooperation with other senior administrative officers, of its long-term academic and budgetary management and planning. The Provost works closely with the President to review all academic programs and policies, as well as on the appointment, promotion, and compensation of the faculty and professional personnel in the academic divisions of the University. The Provost also has administrative oversight of the university's academic support units, such as the Library, the Registrar, Admissions, and Student Affairs, as well as its interfaculty research and teaching units, such as the Center for Advanced Mathematical Studies and the Interfaculty Graduate Environmental Sciences Program. He or she is an ex-officio member of general university academic committees, such as the Board of Deans and the University Senate and its committees. Upon invitation, the Provost accompanies the President to the meetings of the Board of Trustees and is the acting chief executive officer in the absence of the President
