  • The Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine held its annual resident graduation ceremony on Saturday June 31, 2008 at Movenpick Hotel, Mistral Ballroom. Chairman Dr Mohammad Mikati, started the ceremony with a slide presentation demonstrating the remarkable achievements of the department in the past 13 years with respect to expansion of services, residency program, and others. Dr Mikati then distributed shields to the seven residents who completed their training in Pediatrics: Dr Marwa El Jamal, Dr Sahar Abu Daher, Dr Bassem Shamseddine, Dr Khaled Yassine, Dr Roukaya Hammoud, Dr Lina Merjaneh, and Dr Randa Makhoul. Dr. Roukaya Hammoud received the "Resident of the Year" Award, as elected by her colleagues and teachers.

    Drs Khalid Yunis and Marianne Majdalani were winners of the "Teacher of the Year" Award, as elected by the interns and residents.

    Dr Randa Makhoul is continuing in the department as chief resident for the coming year, Dr Lina Merjaneh as neonatology fellow, Drs Roukaya Hammoud and Khalid Yassine are going to the United States for further training. 

    Dr Salman Mroueh delivered a speech describing Dr Mikati's outstanding career and contributions to the department. He then presented the Hans Zellweger Award to Dr Mikati on behalf of the department, an award given in recognition of the recepient's "seminal contributions to the fields of Pediatrics and Pediatric Neurology that were exemplified by the career of Dr. Hans Zellweger".

  • National Campaign Against Epilepsy
    Dr Mohammad Mikati, Director of the Adult and Pediatric Epilepsy Program, is currently organizing, as the President of the Lebanese League Against Epilepsy, and in collaboration with the Lebanese IBE chapter, a major National Awareness Campaign in Lebanon Against Epilepsy that includes making several awareness films and public information brochures, as well as lectures in the community and in schools. The above campaign is the first of its kind in the Arab world.

  • The Board of Trustees has recently approved the change in the name of the Department of Pediatrics to Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. (More) (pdf format)

  • The Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine celebrated the annual graduation of its residents on Friday 25 May, 2007, at AUBMC - Residents’ Lounge. Chairman Dr Mohammad Mikati distributed shields to the five residents who completed their training in Pediatrics: Dr Saleh Bhar, Dr Hanane Dahoui, Dr Majd Makhoul, Dr Joe Chaker El Khoury and Dr Hassan Halawi. He also thanked, in the name of the department, Dr Rania Dib who was the chief resident for the past two years.

    Dr. Dahoui received the "Resident of the Year" Award, as elected by her colleagues and teachers, and Dr Salman Mroueh was winner of the "Teacher of the Year" Award, as elected by the interns and residents.

    Two of our departing residents are going to the United States for further study, and three are continuing in the department as subspecialty fellows - two in hematology/oncology and one in neonatology.
