Base of Skull Surgery

Skull base surgery refers to surgical techniques required to obtain access to the floor of the cranial cavity. Due to the complexity of this region, this type of surgery is one of the most challenging procedures for a neurosurgeon to perform. The neurosurgeon often works in conjunction with head and neck, otologic, and rhinology/sinus surgeons when performing skull base surgery because of the close proximity of the face and neck to the skull base.

A number of faculty members in the department are trained in this type of surgery. To help in improving safety and precision in this type of delicate surgery, different tracking devices are used during the procedure.
