The goal of the program is to graduate well-trained, academically-oriented, orthopaedic surgeons.
It is a four-year, residency, orthopaedic program. In the prerequisites, the graduate finishes a year of straight surgical internship, then as a junior resident, rotates in different surgical specialties, including the Emergency Department (ED).
The aim is to provide a broad, basic education in the field with exposure to all major subspecialty areas, including research. Anatomy, radiology and pathology are also stressed. Each April, all residents sit for the orthopaedic in-training examination. Residents are expected to complete one clinical research, at least, during the course of their training. One or two residents are chosen every year following the basic two years of training.
The division offers several weekly conferences, including morbidity-mortality, Pathology-Radiology Journal Club, outside speakers and a core curriculum in the different specialties. The division is also very active in the orthopaedic community in Lebanon and the Pan Arab societies.
The division is also happy to accommodate visiting students and residents from the Arab world or from abroad. Applications are available at the Department of Surgery.
