What is ‘The Debs
Center’?
The Debs Center
is the official North American headquarters of the American
University of Beirut. The center houses the University’s North
American executive, development, and alumni relations offices. The Board
of Trustees meets three times a year (March, June and November) at the center.
A private state-of-the-art video conferencing facility, the
Debs
Center also hosts lectures,
receptions, conferences, and meetings for the University.
The Debs Center
was named in honor of Dr. Richard A. Debs,
chairman emeritus of the AUB Board of
Trustees.
Where is it located?
The Debs Center is located at 3 Dag Hammarskjold Plaza on the
8th floor in New York City. The street address is 305 East 47th Street between
First and Second Avenues, one of the most charming streets in all of Manhattan.
Directly across the street is Katharine Hepburn Park spanning the length of the
block, where there is a bustling farmers market every Wednesday.
Neighbors include the United Nation Missions of Chile, Sudan, the United Arab
Emirates and the African Union; the Japan Society; the United Nations, and the
Holy Family Church.

What is the Campaign for Excellence?
In 2002 AUB launched its Campaign for Excellence, which will
raise $140 million for the University’s 140th anniversary in the
2006-07 academic year.
The Campaign will provide for increased scholarship support and
financial aid; new buildings and renovations on campus; state-of-the-art
technology for students and faculty; endowments for new faculty chairs;
increased funding for research; and improvements to student life.
AUB’s Campaign for Excellence was developed following a
two-year academic review of AUB’s strengths and potential, and joined with the
development of a Master Plan for the campus that will provide new and renovated
facilities to better support AUB’s academic mission.
