What we do

The Office of Development and External Relations at the New York Office is responsible for fundraising and communications with AUB’s North American constituencies of alumni and friends.

The fundraising effort in North America focuses on encouraging support from alumni and friends through the Annual Fund, Daniel Bliss Society and major gifts as part of the University's Campaign for Excellence. Contributions made to the University assist in developing enriching academic programs, providing financial aid to students, and in upgrading facilities through capital projects. A gift to AUB ensures that the University maintains its edge as the leading higher educational institution in the Middle East.

The AUB community in North America is informed of the University's academic and social activities through AUB's quarterly magazine MainGate. Alumni and friends can also access current information, news and press releases by visiting the AUB website, www.aub.edu.lb. Communication and media relations are integral part of the Development's efforts to maintain community awareness. For further information on Communications, please click the link below.

Campaign for Excellence

In 2002 AUB launched its Campaign for Excellence with a goal of $140 million to be reached by the University’s 140th anniversary in the 2006-07 academic year. The campaign will provide increased scholarship support and financial aid; new buildings and renovations on campus; state-of-the-art technology for students and faculty; endowments for new faculty chairs; increased funding for research; and improvements to the quality of student life.

At the campaign’s midpoint more than $107 million in gifts and pledges had been raised, and we expect to exceed our goals before the target date of December 2007.

AUB’s Campaign for Excellence seeks to:

  • Make AUB’s educational programs available to the most qualified students by significantly increasing the number and magnitude of financial aid awards;

  • Recruit highly qualified faculty in all disciplines;

  • Provide state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and research;

  • Be linked, through research and consulting, to local, regional, and international enterprises;

  • Help create professional and business opportunities for AUB’s students and faculty in Lebanon and the region;

  • Maintain and build on the excellence of the Medical Center and the Faculty of Medicine;

  • Renovate student and faculty housing; and

  • Enhance the beauty of AUB’s campus

The AUB Annual Fund

A robust Annual Fund makes it possible for the University to provide the resources that are vital to AUB’s continuing excellence.  The fund supports research scholarships, new library acquisitions, and the myriad operational costs of maintaining the AUB campus.  A major priority of the fund, and its circle of leadership donors in the Daniel Bliss Society, is to provide financial aid to those young people who come from less privileged backgrounds.

Participation in the Annual Fund is unique and truly rewarding because it shapes the experience of all AUB students every moment of everyday. Contributors to the Annual Fund help to provide students  with the basic infrastructure of an academic environment that demands excellence.

Regardless of the size of  the gift,  all donations carry an equal message of caring and support, and that is the true measure of the University’s health.

The Daniel Bliss Society

The Daniel Bliss Society is the leadership circle of donors to the Annual Fund of the American University of Beirut.  Individuals may join by donating one thousand dollars, or more, annually  to AUB.  All  gifts  help support student financial aid, academic and student run programs, faculty research, libraries, campus facilities, and new technologies.  Daniel Bliss members enjoy such privileges as recognition in the AUB Contributors Report, previews to major AUB announcements, invitations to periodic special events and lectures, and an invitation to an annual Daniel Bliss Society reception with President Dorman.
