Submissions from the

Faculty of Medicine

Researchers who wish to submit proposals for intramural funding should follow the guidelines adopted by the Faculty of Medicine Research Committee (also available in Word format).

For proposals submitted for extramural funding, follow the instructions of the particular funding agencies.

Several coversheets exist depending on where the proposal will be submitted.

No Funding Requested

If no funding is requested use the Research Proposal Coversheet (which is also used for MPP and DTS submissions).

Intramural Funding

Members of the Faculty of Medicine seeking intramural funding are advised to submit to all three major funding sources (if applicable); they are:

  1. The Medical Practice Plan Research Fund (for all faculty members)
  2. The Diana Tamari Sabbagh Research Fund (only for basic science research conducted at the DTS Building)
  3. The University Research Board (for full time faculty members)

                    Coversheet for MPP and DTS

                    Coversheet for URB

(These sheets will also serve as the IRB coversheet.)

Extramural Funding

Members of the Faculty of Medicine seeking extramural funding should submit the coversheets provided by the Grants and Contracts Office. This coversheet will then serve as the IRB coversheet also.

In addition, fill any other coversheets requested by individual funding agencies, if applicable; e.g., Lebanese Council for Scientific Research coversheets.

All research involving human subjects must be reviewed by the Institutional Review Board (IRB).  Please refer to that web page for details of its operation and the principles and procedures it follows.

        Exemption from IRB Review

Some proposals may be exempted from IRB review, in which case a special form must be filled in addition to the regular coversheets mentioned above.  The form lists the categories of research which qualify for exemption.

      Expedited/Full Committee IRB Review

Some proposals, where risk to human research subjects is minimal or absent, may be eligible for expedited review by the IRB (not requiring review by the full IRB).  A special application form should be filled for these proposals.  The form lists the categories of research which qualify for expedited review.  The same form must be submitted for other proposals that are not eligible for expedited review.
