Borrowing and Loan Period Renewals

Faculty                   1 year
Ph.D.                     1 semester
Graduates               4 weeks
Undergraduates       2 weeks
Other Borrower Categories

  • You may look at a list of items you have borrowed under My Account in LIBCAT
  • When a borrowed item is overdue, you will receive email notice(s) and a letter from the library.
  • You are responsible for renewing your materials, in person, at the Circulation Desk in the libraries, after clearing any outstanding fines and overdue items.
  • Items may be renewed if no one else has reserved them.
 

 

Overdues Fines

For any overdue item(s) you will receive the first email notice on the day of the overdue. Library will send up to three overdue notices and a letter by campus mail.

  • If the item is not returned within two days of the overdue date, fines will start accumulating until the item is returned.
  • If the item is not returned, you may not borrow or renew until your record is cleared.
  • If the item is not returned after you receive the three overdue notices, the item will be considered lost and your will be charge the cost of that item. Cost will be deducted from your salary (Faculty and Staff).

Regular loan:          LL.1,000 per day
Short term loan:      LL.10,000 per day

  • For any unpaid fine, you will receive up to three email notices and a letter from the library until fines are paid. After the above notices if fines are not paid, they:
    • will be added to your Statement of Fees (Student).
    • will be deducted from your salary at the end of the month (Staff).
  • If you have unpaid fines (more than LL.10,000), you may not borrow or renew until your record is cleared.
  • If you have unpaid fines (more than LL.50,000), you may not register until your record is cleared.

 

Returns Reservations and Holds
  • You are responsible for returning borrowed items promptly, to the library from which they were borrowed.
  • If the item you want is out, you may reserve it through LIBCAT.
  • When the item becomes available, you will receive an e-mail notice from the library. The item will be held for you, in the library, for 48 hours.

 

Penalties
  • Lost books: replacement charges are determined according to the price of the item, shipping, processing, and binding.
  • Damaged items: to cut, tear, mark or write on library materials is strictly forbidden. Users caught doing so will be charged accordingly and may risk losing their borrowing privileges.

 

External Users
  • Only users with a valid AUB ID are eligible to use the libraries.
  • Visitors may apply for a membership to obtain a library card at the Circulation Librarian office, Jafet Library. Tel: 01-350 000 (Ext.2619), email circulation@aub.edu.lb
