The University
Libraries and Orientation
The University Libraries were prominently present during most of the Orientation
activities for the academic year 2005-2006 in September. Several presentations
were made about the resources and services to a variety of groups of students
and faculty. Of note were the ones made to new faculty and for the first
time to graduate students and to the PSPA Faculty Retreat.
The Libraries also participated in an Information Fair where several flyers
about services and resources were distributed to new students.

Maleeha Suidan Maalouli, the Librarian of the Engineering/Architecture
Branch Library in the University Libraries has retired as of the end of
September 2005 after many years of faithful and fruitful service to the
Libraries in particular and to the University as a whole.
Maleeha joined the University Libraries in 1972 and acquired her MLS
from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1980. She was appointed the
Librarian in the Engineering/Architecture Library in 1983, and has held
that post until her retirement.
As one of the landmarks of her career, Maleeha remembers, how she participated
in keeping Jafet Library open during the civil war and the camaraderie
and sense of service that resulted from this.
One of Maleeha's observations was how much she enjoyed working with the
staff of the Branch Library and expresses appreciation for the support
she consistently got from the deans and faculty of FEA. Everyone was cooperative
and helpful throughout her career.
Her ambition is to become the master of her daily program without the
routine of work. She will continue her swimming and walking activities
and may eventually volunteer at social organizations.
Maleeha's calm demeanor, patience at work, her sense of humor and resilience
will be missed by all her colleagues.
Mirna Tabet was sponsored by the university to continue
her professional education in Library Science at Catholic University of
America during 2005-2006. This is part of a program to continue staff
professional development for succession purposes.
Marie Claude Bacha has joined the Information Services
Department as a Library Assistant in June 2005.
