from any computer on or off-campus to search the collection of books,
periodicals, microfilm/fiches, theses, projects, etc., available at AUB. Location of Materials Books are housed in stacks on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and
5th floors. The Circulation staff retrieves books from the stacks. |

Circulation A current, valid AUB identification card must be
presented in person before any item may be borrowed. Circulation rules
apply equally to students, faculty, and staff. Library users will be held
responsible for materials borrowed in his/her name. All loans are renewable,
in person, provided another user has not requested the item. Non-circulating
materials are borrowed with permission.
Stacks and Reading Areas Reference Reading Rooms and Stacks: The Reference Department consists of two sections: The Reference area with its collection of over 23000 volumes, and the Audiovisuals section with its collection of over one million items. Library users have free access to the reference stacks, but not to the Audiovisuals storage area. The reference reading room is a QUIET study area for 158 students. The Reference Department is open during Library Hours. There are five photocopiers at the entrance of the Department (one for color copying), with three magnetic card vending machines. or by telephone at x2620/1. Archive and Special Collecitons: The Archives and Special Collections (ASC) Department is located in the first floor (basement) of Jafet Library. It acquires, processes, and services the University Archives and six special collections: Theses-Dissertations and Projects, Closed Area books and periodicals, Manuscripts, Photographs, Posters, and Maps.
All manuscripts are on microfilm and can be viewed in the Audiovisuals Section. The photograph and poster collections are each divided in two parts: AUB and non-AUB. Some of the Special Collections and their catalogs are accessible through
the Library homepage. Computers There are computers in the Lobby area dedicated for library catalog search (OPAC). These workstations are available for AUB users and guests. Other computers dedicated for Internet search, are available for AUB users only. Network and card-operated printers are available for users. Audiovisuals Reading Room / Computer Lab The Jafet Computer Lab is located in the Audiovisuals Reading Room. The lab houses a large number of computers, network printer, card-operated printers, and a scanner, that are available to AUB students and faculty with a valid (active) AUBnet account. Users can browse the Internet, run Microsoft Office-2000/XP applications, SPSS, Telnet, and more. There are also few microfilm/microfishe/microcard readers and printers, Television sets, video-tape/DVD machines. A tape recorder is also available upon request. The Audiovisuals Reading Room/Computer lab is open during Jafet Library Hours. Reserve Reading Room The Reserve Reading Room houses all items put on reserve by faculty
members during a semester. The Reserve Reading Room is a QUIET reading
