  • An-Nahar, The Daily Star, and Al-Anwar of November 1 reported on the panel discussion held at AUB and organized by AUB Center for American Studies and Research entitled "Real Change? A Forum on the US Elections." The papers said that the speakers at the panel discussion, economics Professor Marcus Marktanner, anthropology Professor Patrick McGreevy, who is the director of the Center for American Studies and Research, and international relations Professor Karim Makdisi, agreed that there was little political difference between both candidates.

  • An-Nahar of November 1 reported on the end of the round table discussion entitled  Marsad Nawwara organized by AUB to launch the National Women Station for Farming and Rural Areas.

  • Al-Mustaqbal, Al-Akhbar, The Daily Star, and Al-Anwar of November 1 reported on the two-day wellness fair held at AUB and organized by the Committee on University Wellness. The paper said that the fair took place at AUB on October 30-31 and featured the multi-dimensional qualities of healthy living.

  • Al-Mustaqbal of November 1 and Ad-Diyar of November 2 reported on the classical Indian musical performance that took place at Assembly Hall. The papers said that the concert was organized by the Indian Embassy in Beirut, the Indian Cultural Council in New Delhi, and AUB's Office of Information and Public Relations.

  • Al-Akhbar of November 1 announced that the Secularism Club is a new student club launched at AUB this year.

  • L'Orient-Le Jour of November 1 reported that the president of the Lebanese Press Syndicate Mohammed Baalbaki received Rami Ollaik who gave him a copy of his recently published book The Bees Road which recounts his journey from being a Hizbullah activist to a peace advocate. The paper said that the book includes a section that tells Ollaik's story as a student at AUB.

  • L'Orient-Le Jour of November 1, 4 and 5 carried the announcement by the Society of the Friends of the AUB Museum that it is organizing a field trip for children to the Lebanese coastal city of Byblos.

  • An-Nahar, Al-Liwa', Ad-Diyar, Al-Bayraq, Ash-Sharq, Al-Anwar and Al-Mustaqbal of November 2 reported that the Makassed Hospital held a graduation ceremony for its medical interns under the auspices of minister of culture Tammam Salam who lauded the collaboration of the hospital with several medical centers in the country including AUBMC.

  • Al-Akhbar of November 2 reported on the festivities on the occasion of Halloween held on Bliss Street by a group of university students including AUB.

  • Al-Anwar and Ash-Sharq of November 4 reported that a delegation from the Lebanese Economic Forum headed by Rafic Zantout visited Beirut MP Saad Hariri and thanked him for the donations he has been granting for various development projects such as the one he gave to the American University of Beirut.

  • An-Nahar, Al-Mustaqbal, As-Safir, and Ad-Diyar of November 4 and Al-Balad of November 5 reported that the St. Jude Children Cancer Center in Lebanon held a fundraising gala dinner at the Phoenicia Hotel, Beirut. The paper said that members of the board of trustees of the center headed by Salim Zeinni and Randa Berri, wife of Speaker of the House Nabih Berri, attended the dinner.

  • Al-Liwa' of November 4 reported on the ceremony held on October 24 at AUB's West Hall in honor of 11 current Lebanese ministers who are AUB alumni. The paper said among those given the honorary awards was Lebanon's PM Fouad Siniora, and that the ceremony was organized by the Worldwide Alumni Association of the American University of Beirut (WAAAUB).

  • The Daily Star of November 4 published a political editorial on the national unity government being created by Lebanese President Michel Suleiman. The paper quoted AUB Professor of Political Studies Hilal Khashan.
  • The Daily Star of November 4 reported on the City Debates 2008 conference held by the Department of Architecture and Design. The paper said that this year's City Debates theme was Spaces of Faith and Fun.
  • Al-Anwar of November 4 reported on the lecture given by Lebanese and London based designer Rana Salam on October 31. The paper said that the lecture was inspired by her soon-to-be-issued book The Secret Life of Syrian Lingerie. The paper also said that the lecture was organized by the AUB Department of Architecture and Design.
  • An-Nahar of November 5 reported that the USAID through the US Embassy in Lebanon donated $100,000 to the American Community School. The paper said that AUB is among the institutions that benefit from the USAID funds.
  • Al-Liwa' of November 5 carried the announcement by the Beirut Municipality that AUB and the Riviera Yacht Club will not be allowed to put up tents to cover the views to their beaches on the Corniche next summer.
  • As-Safir of November 5 published an article on Lebanese youth moving out of their parents' houses as soon as they join college. The paper included an interview with AUB student Jana Dhaher who thought that the experience of independence is essential for young men and women.
  • The Daily Star of November 5 published a political editorial on the UN mandated Blue Line in Southern Lebanon and included quotations by Timor Goksel and Chafiq el-Masri who teach political studies at AUB.
  • The Daily Star of November 5 reported on the panel discussion held at AUB's department of architecture and design by three renowned architects who lectured on the evolution of urban living in a talk entitled "New Ways of Living in a City." The paper said that the speakers were Spanish architects Juan Herreros and Javier Maderuelo, and Lebanese architect Bernard Khoury, and that the event was organized by AUB's Department of Architecture and Design and Instituto Cervantes.
  • tayyar.org, the Central News Agency, An-Nahar, Al-Mustaqbal, As-Safir, Al-Bayraq, Al-Ahkbar, L'Orient-Le Jour, and Dar Al-Hayat (Britain) of November 6 reported that MP Ghassan Tueini was hospitalized at AUBMC after feeling ill during a parliamentary session hosting unity government negotiations. The papers also said that his medical condition is stable.
  • Al-Anwar, Al-Mustaqbal, and Dar Al-Hayat (Britain) of November 6 reported that AUB Professor of political studies Theodore Hanf will be participating in the three-day Scientific Forum on Archaeological Remains in the Middle East that is organized by British Lebanese Society of Friends of the National Museum in collaboration with the Lebanese General Directorate of Archaeology and the National Council for Scientific Research.
  • Al-Mustaqbal, Al-Bayraq, and Al-Anwar of November 7 reported that AUB Professor of political studies Theodore Hanf will be participating in the three-day Scientific Forum on Archaeological Remains in the Middle East that is organized by British Lebanese Society of Friends of the National Museum in collaboration with the Lebanese General Directorate of Archaeology and the National Council for Scientific Research.

  • As-Safir, Ad-Diyar, Al-Anwar, and the Daily Star of November 7 announced that AUB's department of architecture and design held a ceremony commemorating late Lebanese architect Khalil Khoury who passed away on October 8. The paper said that former head of the Lebanese Order of Engineers Issam Salam attended the ceremony.

  • As-Safir of November 7 announced that the American University of Beirut Medical Center announced the results of a study they performed on patients suffering from Hughes syndrome, a blood disorder that causes one out of five cases of miscarriage among couples trying to conceive.

  • The Daily Star of November 7 published an opinion piece written by AUB professor Salma Talhouk about the experience of living in Ras Beirut.

  • An-Nahar, Ash-Sharq, and Al-Bayraq of November 8 reported that the AUB Alumni Mount Lebanon branch and WAAAUB held a seminar entitled "Brain Drain: Causes and Solutions" at Issam Fares Hall. The papers said that program included speakers such as HE Tarek Mitri, HE Khalil Mekkawi, Riad Nassar - Former President of LAU, and Jad Chaaban - Assistant Professor of Economics at AUB.

  • Al-Mustaqbal of November 8 reported on the closure of the three-day Scientific Forum on Archaeological Remains in the Middle East, that is organized by British Lebanese Society of Friends of the National Museum in collaboration with the Lebanese General Directorate of Archaeology and the National Council for Scientific Research, and in which AUB Professor of political studies Theodore Hanf participated.

  • As-Safir, Ad-Diyar, Al-Bayraq, and The Daily Star of November 8 announced that the AUB Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs and the AUB Institute for Financial Economics, jointly with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, will hold a one day workshop on November 12 on "State Building and State Stability in the Arab World." The papers said that the workshop will take place in West Hall.

  • As-Safir, The Daily Star, and Al-Anwar of November 8, and An-Nahar and Al-Liwa' of November 10 reported on the ceremony held at AUB West Hall to dedicate the Common Room to Mahmoud Malhas, an AUB alumnus of 1975 who donated $600,000 to renovate and equip the student common room at West Hall. The paper said that during the ceremony Malhas unveiled the plaque bearing his name in front of the common room.

  • <http://www.tayyar.org>www.tayyar.org of November 8 published an article on the members of General Michel Aoun's movement running for the position of MP for the region of Kura. The paper said that one of them is Salim Saadeh whose mother May was among the first women to graduate with an MD from AUB in 1940.

  • Al-Anwar, Ad-Diyar, Al-Mustaqbal, and Al-Akhbar of November 9, and Al-Liwa', Al-Bayraq, and Ash-Sharq of November 10 reported that a student delegation from AUB visited MP Michel Aoun in his house in Rabiyeh. The papers said that MP Aoun discussed with them the forthcoming student elections and other student concerns.

  • Al-Mustaqbal of November 9 reported that AUB's department of architecture and design held a ceremony on November 6 commemorating late Lebanese architect Khalil Khoury who passed away on October, 8. The paper also said that AUB held a ceremony at West Hall to dedicate the Common Room to Mahmoud Malhas, an AUB alumnus of 1957 who donated $600,000 to renovate and equip the student common room at West Hall.

  • The Daily Star of November 10 carried the announcement by AUB's Office of Development that AUB undergraduates of Armenian origins are welcome to apply to the Raffy Manoukian Scholarship.

  • Al-Anwar, Al-Akhbar, The Daily Star, As-Safir, Al-Mustaqbal, and An-Nahar of November 11 reported that the American University of Beirut has signed an agreement with Booz and Company, a prestigious international management consulting firm, under which the firm will donate $300,000 toward an endowed scholarship fund for engineering students.

  • 14 March of November 11 reported that Lebanese musician Ghassan Rahbani was invited to give a talk at AUB.

  • The Central News Agency of November 11 and Al-Balad and Ash-Sharq Al-Awsat (KSA) of November 13 reported that AUB has signed an agreement with Booz and Company, a prestigious international management consulting firms, under which the firm will donate $300,000 toward an endowed scholarship fund for engineering students at AUB.

  • As-Safir and <http://www.tayyar.org>www.tayyar.org of November 12 published a feature article on the phenomenon of the emergence of Islamic fundamentalist organizations in Lebanon and in Palestinian camps in Lebanon. The papers gave the example of a the leader of an Islamic organization in the Ain El Helwe Palestinian refugee camp called Al-Haraka Al-Islamiyya Al-Mujahida Sheikh Jamal Khattab who has a BA in business administration from AUB.

  • Al-Anwar, Ash-Sharq, The Daily Star, Ad-Diyar, As-Safir, Al-Liwa', Al-Mustaqbal, and the Central News Agency of November 13 and Al-Balad of November 14 reported on the one-day workshop held on November 12 and organized by the AUB Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs and the AUB Institute for Financial Economics, jointly with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and entitled "State Building and State Stability in the Arab World." The papers said that Rami Khuri, director of the Issam Fares Institute, participated in the inaugural session of the workshop and that the workshop gathered political academic and civil society experts in a panel discussion to debate challenges and opportunities facing political development, including the roles of state, media, and civil society and the economy in enhancing state stability and economy.

  • Ash-Sharq, Ad-Diyar, Al-Mustaqbal, and the Central News Agency of November 13 reported that AUB participated in the student orientation fair that took place in the Safadi Cultural Center in the North where representatives from admissions offices of 12 universities in Lebanon met with high school students of the North region and presented them with majoring options.

  • The Daily Star of November 13 published a political analysis of the recent television appearance of a member of the Islamic group Fateh Al Islam on Syrian television to 'confess' their affiliation with Al-Mustaqbal political group. The paper included a quotation by AUB professor of political studies Hilal Khashan who said that these confessions were made under duress.

  • Al-Akhbar of November 13 reported on the lecture given by Lebanese London-based designer Rana Salam on October 31. The paper said that the lecture was inspired by her soon-to-be-issued book The Secret Life of Syrian Lingerie. The paper also said that the lecture was organized by the AUB Department of Architecture and Design.

  • As-Safir of November 13 announced that the insurance company Med Gulf has suspended its medical insurance contract with AUB Medical Center due to the increase of billing fees at the hospital.

  • Al-Mustaqbal of November 13 reported on the 9th Annual Conference of Mechanical Engineers in which Muhammad Tassi of AUB's Facilities Planning and Design Unit lectured about construction projects at the University.

  • An-Nahar, As-Safir, Ad-Diyar, Al-Bayraq, and Al-Balad  of November 14 carried the announcement by the Athletics Department of the Lebanese University that their students will be participating in the athletics tournament held at AUB from November 15 to November 29 to celebrate the inauguration of their new sports facilities.

  • Ad-Diyar of November 14 reported that AUB participated in the student orientation fair that took place at the Safadi Cultural Center in the North where representatives from admissions offices of 12 universities in Lebanon met with high school students of the North region and presented them with majoring options.

  • Ad-Diyar of November 14 reported on the annual fair to attract volunteers to the social committee of the Two Sacred Hearts Nunnery School - Sioufi. The paper said that the social committee held an awareness campaign under that theme of Healthy Diet. The paper said the AUB Health Basket was among the participants in the fair.

  • Al-Anwar and the Central News Agency of November 14 reported on the 9th Annual Conference of Mechanical Engineers in which Muhammad Tassi of AUB's Facilities Planning and Design Unit lectured about construction projects at the University.

  • The Central News Agency of November 15 and 14 March of November 16 reported that former Lebanese PM Najib Mikati left Lebanon to New York City to join the American University of Beirut board of trustees meeting.

  • The Central News Agency of November 16 and Al-Anwar of November 18 carried the announcement by AUB that the President's Club in collaboration with the Office of Information and Public Relations are featuring Nelson Latif and his Band in a workshop on Brazilian music and dance on Wednesday, November 19, at West Hall.

  • The Daily Star of November 17 carried the announcement by AUB's Office of Development that AUB undergraduates of Armenian origins are welcome to apply to the Raffy Manoukian Scholarship.

  • The Daily Star of November 17 reported on the crash course on the Middle East given to a group of 12 Swedish journalists by the Swedish Institute for the Further of Education of Journalists and the Beirut-based Middle East Reporter. The paper said that journalists who stayed in Beirut from November 8-16 met with a number of guest speakers including Ahamad Moussalli, professor of political studies at AUB.

  • L'Orient Le Jour of November 17 and The Central News Agency of November 19 reported that the urban planning and policy and urban design graduate program is holding the first public debate of the Waad master plan and architectural projects guiding the post-2006 war reconstruction of Beirut's southern suburbs (Dahyeh) on November 19.

  • Al-Mustaqbal and Al-Liwa' of November 18 reported that AUB participated in the training workshop of the PROMEDAccess project that took place at the Beirut Open University on November 13-14 and was organized by the Ta'rif Center for Projects Funded by the EU.

  • The Daily Star of November 18 announced that the AUB Initiative for Biodiversity in Arid Regions (IBSAR) will launch on Wednesday a community tree planting project for the 2008-09 season starting in the Chouf region. The paper said that approximately 3,000 trees will be brought from AUB's farm in the Beka'a (AREC) and distributed over several villages.

  • The Central News Agency of November 18 and Al-Mustaqbal of November 19 reported that Dr. Ali Taher of Hematology and Oncology at AUBMC gave a lecture at the Safadi Cultural Center. The paper said that the lecture was part of the third anniversary of the passing away of George Nassim Khirati and was organized by the George Nassim Khirati Foundation.

  • L'Orient Le Jour of November 19 and Al-Balad of November 20 announced that the AUB Initiative for Biodiversity in Arid Regions (IBSAR) will launch today a community tree planting project for the 2008-09 season starting in the Chouf region. The papers said that approximately 3,000 trees will be brought from AUB's farm in the Beka'a (AREC) and distributed over several villages.

  • Al-Anwar of November 19 published the schedule of tournaments issued by the Lebanese university sports federation in which AUB's athletics teams will compete.

  • Ad-Diyar and An-Nahar of November 19 reported on the performance of Nelson Latif and his Band (Grupo Raiz) in a workshop on Brazilian music and dance on Wednesday, November 19, at West Hall. The papers said that the performance was organized by AUB President's Club in collaboration with the Office of Information and Public Relations.

  • An-Nahar of November 19 and Al-Balad of November 20 reported that AUB participated in the training workshop of the PROMEDAccess project that took place at the Beirut Open University on November 13-14 and was organized by the Ta'rif Center for Projects Funded by the EU.

  • Al-Liwa', Al-Mustaqbal, Ad-Diyar, As-Safir, An-Nahar, Al-Bayraq, Al-Akhbar, L'Orient Le Jour, The Daily Star, Ash-Sharq, Sharq Star, Al-Anwar, Anwar Star, The Central News Agency, Dar Al-Hayat (Britain), Kuwait Times (Kuwait), Al-Ittihad (UAE), Middle East Times (Britain), and the Guardian Unlimited (Britain) of November 20 reported that the British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and MP David Miliband gave a one hour talk at the American University of Beirut. The paper said that Miliband was invited by the Center for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies and that the debate was held in West Hall's Bathish Hall and attracted a large audience of AUB students and faculty, as well as British Ambassador Frances Guy.

  • Al-Liwa' of November 20 reported on an investigation by the Lebanese police at the American University of Beirut Medical Center following its use of a corpse delivered at the hospital for teaching of an anatomy course to medical students.

  • L'Orient Le Jour of November 20 announced that the National Network of Prenatal and Neonatal Medicine is holding a two-day conference on November 21-22 at the Movenpick Hotel, Beirut. The paper said that the National Network of Prenatal and Neonatal Medicine works in close collaboration with AUBMC's department of pediatrics.

  • L'Orient Le Jour of November 20 announced that a human rights conference will be held at AUB's Issam Fares Hall. The paper said that the conference was organized by the Lebanese national council for UNESCO.

  • The Daily Star of November 20 published a political editorial assessing the current Lebanese political situation. The paper said that Lebanese leaders have turned their attention to the national elections of May 2009. The paper quoted AUB professor of political studies Hilal Khashan as saying that the elections might do little in breaking the domestic political deadlock.
