University On-Campus Shuttle Service

Effective Monday, November 10, 2008 the routing of the university's on-campus shuttle service will be modified. Currently this shuttle transports passengers from the parking lot near the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences on the lower campus to the location of the new Issam Fares Institute and then to the Medical Gate on the upper campus.

In an effort to reduce vehicular traffic on campus, the university administration has decided to limit the shuttle's route to operate between Agriculture and the northern side of Jafet Library only. This means that the shuttle will no longer carry passengers on the upper campus road in the direction of International College nor in the direction of the Medical Gate.

The operating hours of the shuttle will remain unchanged. Thank you for your understanding.

Drew Wickens, Director of Financial Planning and Auxiliary Services.

Message from President Dorman
Service Excellence Award
At this time of year, I have the pleasure of asking the AUB community to nominate candidates for the President's Service Excellence Award, a distinction that is reserved for non-academic employees. This award is presented to AUB personnel who show excellence in the performance of their duties and have fulfilled their responsibilities beyond the call of duty. Nine groups of award recipients have been recognized so far, with their names appearing on the Wall of Honor at College Hall.

In order to begin the 2009 awards selection process, I invite you to nominate an AUB employee who demonstrates extraordinary service quality. Your nominee could be an employee from any level and any area (other than teaching faculty and clinicians), and should be someone who has demonstrated superior "customer" service leading to increased "customer" satisfaction, efficiency of operations and/or effectiveness of processes. This means that these employees have excelled when dealing with "customers" who include students, hospital patients and any internal AUB users.

Your nomination should be supported by appropriate justification, and delivered prior to January 31, 2009 to Andre Nahas, College Hall, 5th Floor. Nomination forms and justification letters can be printed directly from the web:

If you feel that you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Andre Nahas, Director of Office of Strategy Management 3570.

Peter Dorman

Do You Know!
Assembly Hall's First Organ
Assembly Hall was completed in 1891 and its first organ was made by Alexander Young of Manchester, England. It represented the Syrian Protestant College's commitment to the arts.
In its first 32 years, this organ served the regular needs of the Sabbath School.  Beginning in 1923, it was also used by the AUB Institute of Music, and in the 1960s, by the Department of Fine and Performing Arts.
For 81 years this organ proved to be as Daniel Bliss had described it, "a fine and sweet-toned instrument". But it developed mechanical problems and was limited in range. Through the generosity of Trustee B. D. Eddie, Daniel Bliss's organ was replaced by a Marcussen organ in early 1972.
