BENEFITS

ELIGIBILITY

DESCRIPTION

Health Insurance Plan

Full time academic appointees engaged for periods over 3 months and part-time academic appointees engaged on half-time or more for more than nine months.

It is a voluntary plan. The plan provides for in-patient coverage, and out-patient (ambulatory) coverage for eligible members and their families.

Retirement Plan A

US Citizens or Resident Alien employees of the University who are normally scheduled to work at least 1,000 hours in a 12-month time period.

The benefits under this program are based on the aggregate amount of contributions paid by the University and the employees. The member participates 5% of basic compensation and AUB contributes 10%.

Retirement Plan B

Regular full time non-US Citizen or Resident Alien employees at the University.

The University records in each participating memorandum account a future receive benefit of 12½% of employee's basic compensation while the employee contributes 5%.

Appointment & Termination Travel and Baggage Allowances*

Full time faculty members (Prof., Assoc. and Asst.) whose letter of appointment is for three years and whose home is not in Lebanon. Termination Travel will be granted at the end of last contract of the appointee.

Appointment and Termination Travel and Baggage Allowances are granted to the appointee, spouse and eligible children.

Periodic Paid Research Leave*

Full time professorial members (Assistant, Associate and full Professor) are granted a periodic research leave of one semester or of one year.

Basic airfare (economy class) for a round trip between Beirut and appointee's periodic paid research leave destination for appointee, spouse and eligible children.

Educational Allowances

Educational Allowances may be provided to regular full time Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Senior Lecturers, and Lecturers, who are appointed for at least one year.
The same will apply to Instructors after 5 years of active continuous service.

Educational Allowances for elementary, intermediate and secondary education will be paid for a max of 13 regular academic years for eligible students pursuing the High School program and 14 years for students pursuing the Lebanese Baccalaureate Program.
University Education will be provided at either AUB (Free) or reimbursement of tuition at another University.

Annual Leave

Regular full time academic personnel.

Appointees on 11-month service contract are entitled to thirty calendar days of annual leave per contract year.
Appointees who are on 9-month service contract are entitled to an annual leave of three months.

Home Leave*

Full time Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor whose home at the time of hiring is not in Lebanon, after completion of 3 years of continuous active service, if the appointment has been renewed for a period of not less than 2 years.

Home Leave Travel Allowance is provided to appointee, spouse and each eligible child residing with appointee, if accompanying him/her.

Staff Education

Full time academic staff are eligible for 6 credits per semester (not to exceed six clock hours).

The employee is charged with 40% of the fees. The request for Staff Educational Scholarship Application will be subject to consideration and the submission of this application would not necessarily result in granting an educational scholarship.

* N.B. Travel and Baggage Allowances are to be based upon the least expensive basic air fare for the person receiving the allowance, taking into account any fare reduction for children and the like. Baggage Allowances are generally a percentage of the basic fare for an adult. If the travel and baggage costs actually incurred are greater than the costs provided for herein,AUB will only pay the lesser amount, subject to the provisions of the Policies on Benefits and Allowances for Academic Personnel.
