History At Aub
The Near East is one of the most historically misunderstood and
misrepresented sectors of the ever growing global community. The
practical applications of a historical knowledge abound, whether
through the study of long past empires of the Near East or more
recent connections to the modern world.
The department realizes the innumerable complexities associated
with history in the Near East, and for that reason is oriented towards
the individual interests of the student. Themes such as religion,
politics, and economics all played a role in the development of
the Near East. Topics of overlapping historical and archaeological
significance are widespread in the region and the department is
especially capable to handle such research. Inter-departmental coordination
is as common as well; the department works closely with AUB's Center
for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies (CAMES) graduate program.
