Regional Flagship Course
Modules Offered
The ninth Regional Flagship Course for June
2006 will be a one-week course, offered June
19-23, 2006 in Beirut, Lebanon. The course
will introduce the module on “Social Health
Insurance for Developing Nations”. This
module explores the principles, design and
practices of Social Health Insurance (SHI)
for developing countries and establishes the
necessary conditions for its viability and
sustainability. The module will provide an
in-depth understanding of principles and
practices of SHI, particularly the design
and implementation aspects. It will discuss:
(a) the enabling factors to establish SHI;
(b) the two critical elements of
establishing SHI—benefit design and revenues
required to fund the benefit packages; and
(c) the design and implementation issues
such as enrolling population groups, premium
collection and improving the health delivery
system.
The
module will be adapted to fit the needs of
the region using examples and case studies
from the MENA region.
