Why ZIHE (Zooming into Health Ethics)?
The Zooming into Health Ethics Committee (ZIHEC) was established in
October 2005 by a joint cooperation and contribution among many
active societies at the American University of Beirut. It was
initially called Zooming into Medical Ethics Committee (ZIMEC),
but the name was changed in December 2006 to embrace all ethical
issues related to the health profession, in general, and not just
medicine.
Goals
| - Improve awareness about
ethical issues that face the patient and health professionals,
such as patient autonomy, palliative care, empowering
dying patients, respect to patient, euthanasia, and many other
ethical dilemmas |
| - Emphasize the importance of the humane side of medicine by
improving communication skills through active listening
legitimizing patients concerns and showing empathy |
ZIHEC plans to fulfill the above mentioned objectives by showing
movies and cases that deal with many aspects of medical ethics.
This approach is supported by the World Medical Association and
the research conducted in Lebanon.
