  • Amel Association, headed by Dr. Kamel Muhanna, and the Vice President for Medical Affairs, Dean Nadim Cortas signed a cooperative agreement on July 2008. This agreement allows the establishment of a satellite clinic in Cheyyah area. House staff from the department of family medicine (DFM) will provide comprehensive health care to eight hundred Iraqi refugees and other underprivileged communities.

Amel Association was founded in 1979. It is a non profit, non-sectarian and non-governmental organization. One of its aims is providing quality medical services mainly to the underprivileged in Lebanon.
The American University of Beirut (AUB) is well meshed in the community. Since its establishment, the medical center at AUB has been providing health services to hundred thousands of the underprivileged; more so during hard times. During the Israelite invasion in July-August 2006 the medical school provided a fund of more than a million dollar to provide medical treatment and surgeries to the displaced population. This new agreement will emphasize the role of the AUB in serving the community at large.
Besides providing curative services the DFM will be active in educational sessions, vaccination campaigns, and other health promotion and prevention activities.
