Many illnesses result from certain exposures during travel that
may either reveal clinically during travel, or become apparent
after travelers have returned home. Sometimes this might
take weeks, months or even years and therefore a post-travel
health evaluation by an infectious disease specialist is
crucial.
This will include a patient interview to find out:
- Travel history
- Details of pre-travel preparation and any medication used
- Any exposures such as insect or animal bites, swimming in fresh water, eating raw meat,
seafood, or unpasteurized dairy products, and any sexual contact
Based on the interview, certain diagnostic
tests may be requested to confirm the absence of any possible
pathogens. |
