- How do services at travel centers
differ from services at my family doctor?
Travel medicine is a specialty just like endocrinology or
ophthalmology and Travel
centers are prepared to provide comprehensive and up-to-date, preventative pre-travel and
post-travel illness care.

- Is a referral from a family doctor
necessary to make an appointment?
Generally no. This is because you seek services at a
travel center when you are healthy as opposed to ill. As a
result, 99 percent of insurance plans will not reimburse for
services. Payment is by cash, check, or credit card at the time
of service. You will be given an itemized statement before
leaving the clinic if you wish to seek reimbursement from your
insurance company.

- What do travel services cost?
New patients pay a nominal visit fee. This includes
review of pertinent medical history, individualized educational
materials and trip counseling, and prescriptions for necessary
medications. Most immunizations are available during the
visit if desired. These vaccines are individually priced and can
vary greatly. Once established as a patient, you have the option
to return in the future to complete the series of vaccines
started, get boosters, or receive new vaccines for any new
travel plans and pay a reduced visit fee. Our goal is to
customize our services to meet your needs and be as cost
effective as possible.

- When is the best time to schedule an
appointment?
We can see you at any time, however the general rule
is four to six weeks prior to departure. If you are uncertain
about the timing of your appointment we will be happy to discuss
the nature of your trip and advise accordingly. Generally we can
accommodate travelers on a few days notice.
(Top)
- Is an appointment necessary?
Yes-- Please arrive 15 minutes early for check in or
call at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or
reschedule.
(Top)
- Is there anything special I need to
do before or after my visit?
There are no dietary or activity restrictions.
However, you must come prepared with your medical information
(i.e. medical diagnoses, allergies, medications, and
immunization dates) in order to be seen.
(Top)
- Is the Travel Center able to
provide yellow fever immunizations and provide the required
certificate?
No, these vaccinations are controlled by the Ministry
of Health and can only be provided at the airport, free of
charge.
(Top)
- Are there some individuals who
should not travel or receive immunizations?
In general, individuals who are pregnant, planning a
pregnancy, or immuno-suppressed are at increased risk when
traveling and may not be able to receive certain vaccines and
medicines. In addition, they may receive less than optimal
benefit from those that would be considered safe.
(Top)
- How much do your Travel Center
services cost?
Patients using the Travel Center pay for the cost of
the vaccinations and a fee for the medical consultation.
(Top)
- What payment methods does the Travel
Center accept?
We accept cash, checks and credit cards (Visa,
MasterCard, American Express). Payment is due at the time of
service.
(Top)
- What will happen at my appointment?
We offer expert consultation for vaccines and
prescriptions that are necessary for safe travel to many foreign
countries. You will be given an outline of vaccines and
information based on your travel destination(s) and receive any
vaccinations needed or be given prescriptions for medications.
(Top)
- Does my insurance cover me for the
visit and vaccine(s)?
We will give you a receipt that you can submit to
your insurance company. However, we have found that most
insurance companies will not cover these services.
(Top)
- Will you bill my insurance company
or provide pre-approvals?
No. It is the patient's responsibility to submit
forms for reimbursement. We do not provide pre-authorizations,
pre-certifications, or pre-approvals for the visit, vaccines or
prescriptions.
(Top)
- How soon before my trip should I get
my vaccinations?
Each vaccine is different regarding optimal patient
immunity. The CDC recommends receiving vaccinations at least 4-6
weeks in advance. You can still benefit from a visit if it is
less then 4 weeks before your trip.
(Top)
- What do I do if I have a reaction to
the vaccination?
If the vaccine reaction
is life threatening, go to the nearest emergency. If not, immediately call your private
physician. Please also call the clinic, after the reaction has
been addressed, as we track reactions.
(Top)
- What shots/vaccinations do I need?
The consultation will determine which vaccination(s)
the physician recommends based on the type of travel you do,
where you are going and your health history. We also make
provisional recommendations for routine vaccines.
(Top)
- Does each country have a list of
required vaccines?
No. Some tropical countries require Yellow Fever for
visas or entry. Generally, vaccines are medically recommended
based on your previous immunization status, health history and
specific travel plans.
(Top)
- Will the Travel Center
provide me a recommended list of vaccines by telephone?
No. The purpose of your pre-travel assessment is to
provide you the education, immunizations and medications you
require for your specific trip. This requires an on-site visit.
(Top)
- How does the Travel Center know
which health prevention measures are required for my trip?
Our recommendations are based on advisories provided
by the international health agencies. These advisories change
regularly and therefore we provide you with the most updated
information, recommended vaccines and medications.
