The share: What and Where?

What is a share?

Sharers get a weekly basket containing a minimum of 8 varieties of fresh organic fruits and vegetables varying according to the season. Other healthy products are usually added such as organic dried legumes, Balady eggs, organic jams and pickles, etc...
There are two sizes of shares: a regular share designed to provide the weekly needs of a family of two and a large share for a family of four.

Sharers cannot freely choose what is in their baskets. The content of the weekly basket is a function of which vegetables and fruits are in season at the time of delivery. However, some flexibility is provided at each drop-off point through the swap basket where sharers can trade one or two items that they don't like.
An approximate production calendar was created with the farmers. It gives the sharers an idea of what they will receive during the season.
The selection and volume of produce varies from week to week, according to seasonal availability. However, the basket will contain a minimum of 8 different varieties each week.

When and where are the baskets delivered?

For the 2002 season, two drop-off points were chosen for basket delivery every Friday during the season.
One drop-off point is at Pilot Plant of the American University of Beirut and the other is at Downtown Beirut facing Planet Discovery. The latter was provided by Solidère and its location is focal in the area were several educational and sport activities take place.
Both drop-off points open from 9:30 am till 11:30 am every Friday.
In addition to the drop-off points, there is the possibility of delivery at an additional cost. However, sharers who choose this option will lose the opportunity of interacting with other sharers and with the farmers.

Failure to pick the basket up on time results in sending the basket to a food bank for needy people to benefit form.
