The use of ‘state of exception’ and the disciplinary rules by the host authorities and humanitarian organizations have rendered the refugee camp space very problematic. This seminar examines the impact of place (refugee camp) on socio-economics and political and national identities. Sari Hanafi, (PhD, EHESS-Paris 1994) associate professor of Sociology at the American University of Beirut and former Director of Palestinian Refugee and Diaspora Centre, Shaml. His research interests centre around the economic and political sociology and sociology of migration applied to the Palestinian diaspora among other topics.
