Ms. El Abed presented findings from her research project on Palestinian refugees in Egypt, about whom relatively little is know, with the aim of understanding their unique living conditions. She examined how they earn their incomes, the various sectors of the economy in which they are employed and the positions held, the standard of living they achieve, including health and education, and the survival strategies and coping mechanisms that they have adopted while residing in the host country. She also discussed the changing governmental policies, and how these policies have impacted their livelihoods over the past 50 years.
