BMD Guidelines

Staff from the program organized a university-based symposium entitled "Densitometry Applications: Regional Relevance” in collaboration with colleagues from St Joseph’s University. The symposium took place on April 20, 2001 in Beirut, Lebanon. It was the nucleus for a national effort that resulted in the development and unanimous endorsement of the Lebanese Guidelines for Osteoporosis Assessment by five Lebanese scientific societies:

  • The Lebanese Society of Endocrinology
  • The Lebanese Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • The Lebanese Society of Orthopedics
  • The Lebanese Society of Radiology
  • The Lebanese Society of Rheumatology
  • The Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office of the World Health Organization

  • The Lebanese Guidelines for Osteoporosis Assessment and Treatment have completed their first dissemination phase. 5 society-based interactive audience participation sessions attended by over 180 physicians took place over the last 3 months.
    • January 11,2005: Lebanese Society of Endocrinology
    • February 3, 2005: Lebanese Society of Rheumatology and Family Medicine
    • February 4, 2005: Lebanese Society of Radiology
    • March 8, 2005: Lebanese Orthopedics Association
    • March 17, 2005: Lebanese Society of OB/GYN

    Thanks to the support of WHO Lebanon, 5 similar sessions were conducted in 2005 with the General Medicine society across Lebanon: in Beirut, Tripoli, Jounieh, Zahleh, and Saida, reaching over 250 physicians.



  • Update for the Lebanese Osteoporosis Guidelines was presented on April 30, 2006 , Gefinor Rotana. Local experts discussed the Lebanese Guidelines (PDF Update Proceedings) based on new national data. The panel of international experts included: Professor Juliet Compston, Professor John Kanis, and Professor Michael Mc Clung . The Update of the Guidelines is endorsed by the 5 Lebanese Lebanese Scientific Societies involved with osteoporosis care, and by the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

  • Dissemination session for the first Update of the Lebanese Guidelines for Osteoporosis Assessment and Treatment.
    A case-based audience participation interactive session in collaboration between OSTEOS and the OB-GYN society at the annual meeting of the Lebanese Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Nov 2 at the Bristol Hotel More.
