Henry David Thoreau
The site consists of information on the writings, time and life of Henry David Thoreau. It includes excerpts from his writings, a list of the letters he wrote between 1835 and 1862, as well as essays on his works.

Clipping Morgues
The site consists of a collection of twentieth century’s clipping morgues of the New York Times, the New York Herald Tribune, the New York Journal American and Newsweek. The organization of the information is not chronological: Articles are presented under subject headings related to a large number of individuals and topics.

Worcester Art Museum Catalogue
This site consists of a fully searchable online catalogue of Early American paintings. It contains photographs of 77 paintings of the Worcester Art Museum and comprehensive information on 53 other works of art. Details about provenance, references, exhibition history, technical reports, biographies of the model or client are provided, alongside with analysis of the painting.

American Student Union
This site is devoted to the activities of the members of the American Student Union, who fought in the 1930s for civil rights and social and political reforms. It includes secondary literature, articles and memoirs written by the students themselves, as well as photographs and cartoons.

The Emergence of Advertising in America: 1850 - 1920 (EAA)
This site provides information on the development of consumer society and the growth of the advertising business in the US after the Civil War. It includes 9, 000 images and database information covering the history of media and marketing between the late 1860s and the 1920s.

Meeting of Frontiers
This bilingual digital library contains rare books, pictures, audiovisual material and maps telling the stories of the Russian and American men and women who discovered and settled in the frontier areas of the Pacific North West and Alaska.

New American Studies Web
This site provides links to more than 2,000 web-based resources in American Studies. It includes information on online courses (assignments, readings, projects and exhibitions).

American Indian Studies
This site is devoted to the history and culture of the Indian peoples of North and South America. It includes photographs and audiovisual material, as well as links to other web-based resources.

The Plymouth Colony Archive
This site is devoted to the Plymouth Colony. It includes primary documents such as court records, law texts, journals and memoirs written in the 1600s, maps and plans, as well as secondary literature such as biographical entries and articles on the architecture and archaeology of the colony.

Early Republic
This site is devoted to the Jacksonian period (1824-1833). It includes a timeline, biographical information, primary documents relating to various social, cultural and political issues. The site also contains the full text of Charles Haswell's Reminiscences of New York by an Octogenarian (1816 - 1860), published in 1896, as well as links to web-based resources.

Uncle Tom's Cabin and American Culture: A Multi-Media Archive
This site is devoted to Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin. It contains a wide collection of images, texts and audio material that provide information on the historical background of the novel.                                                                 

PBS Online: Africans in America
This site serves as a companion to the six-part television special by the same name. It presents a detailed historical narrative of slavery in North America from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century.

Ellis Island Passenger Arrivals: American Family Immigration History Center
This site is devoted to the lives of the men and women who entered America through Ellis Island. It contains information on the history of these immigrants, as well as archive material allowing one to look for the names and pictures of travelers. The site includes links to related web sites.

American Memory section of the Library of Congress
The site contains information on numerous themes of the history of the United States. It includes images and primary documents. It can be useful for teaching and research purposes.

History Matters
This site is devoted to the teaching of US History Survey courses.  It presents primary documents such as first-person accounts, as well as teaching material (including assignments) The site also provides links to related web-based resources. 

University of Louisiana Digital Library
The site contains information on numerous topics of American studies. It provides a collection of material related to the history, geography, architecture and geology of the United States.

The Valley of the Shadow
This site presents a large collection of primary sources that tell the stories of the men and women who lived in Augusta County, Virginia, and Franklin County, Pennsylvania during the American Civil War (1861-1865).

American Slaves narratives: an Online Anthology
This site presents an anthology of the transcripts of interviews of former African American slaves by journalists and writers. The site includes an annotated index and provides links to related websites.

Harper’s Weekly
This site is a fully indexed collection of articles, editorials and illustrations published in the Harper’s Weekly between 1857 and 1912. It provides a precise record of events as well as exceptional documents related to the formation of public opinion during a decisive period of American history. 

US National Archives and Record Administration
This developing site provides access to the documents collected by the US National Archives and National Administration (NARA). It offers information on citizen’s rights and on the accomplishments of American representatives. This site also presents official texts and reports related to the laws and history of the United States.

Making of America
Making of America (MoA) is a digital library containing primary documents related to the Civil War period. It includes 8,500 books and 50, 000 journal article. Issues of education, psychology, American history, sociology, religion, and science and technology are particularly well documented.

Water Resources Data
This site contains water-resources data collected at 1.5 million locations in the United States. It includes information on current conditions as well as links to related data.

A Treasury of World's Fair Art & Architecture

This digital library provides access to art- and architecture-related images, virtual tours and contextual essays covering a broad number of world's fairs including the first international fair, the "Crystal Palace" in London in 1851, the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition and the 1904 St. Louis Louisiana Purchase Exposition. A Treasury of World's Fair Art & Architecture is the virtual companion to the World's Fair Collection at the University of Maryland's Architecture Library. Images included in the Treasury were scanned from a variety of visual media such as photographs, stereographs, prints, illustrations, scrapbooks, sheet music, periodicals, maps and pamphlets. Many artifacts are represented as well, including trade cards, tickets, exhibitor entry forms, postcards, souvenir ribbons and scarves. The Treasury's collection is strongest for the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial exhibition and the 1904 St. Louis Louisiana Purchase Exposition, and includes broad coverage of most international expositions.
