The course introduces students to the ever evolving science of bioinformatics, enabling them to acquire the necessary skills and understanding required for subsequent courses and research skills.  It presents information networks, protein and genome information resources, DNA and protein sequence analysis, alignment techniques, database searching, etc. 

The course introduces the fundamental methods at the heart of this technology: DNA isolation, restriction digestion, DNA recombination, blotting, DNA library screening, PCR, linkage and DNA microarray analysis. The lectures will cover topics of current research using the techniques described.
