The discovery and clinical application of general anesthesia was one of the most important landmarks of modern medical practice. Few discoveries have had such impact on our patients as relief from acute pain during surgery. However, anesthesiology did not develop its full potential as an academic discipline until the last half of this century. The Department of Anesthesiology at AUB has been instrumental in the metamorphosis of anesthesiology as we know it today.

Excellence in clinical care, research, and education, are the principles upon which the Department of Anesthesiology was founded over thirty years ago. This will be accomplished in an environment of mutual respect and collaboration.

I would like to thank the faculty, residents, administrative staff, and colleagues for their support, dedication, and friendship. We will be committed to take the department a step further into perfection.
