Cloning Course Websites: An Approach to
Managing Multi-Section Courses
Ms.
May Mikati (FAS)
The talk will describe the
WebCT multi-section project being undertaken in the English Communication Skills
Program, focusing on English 204, where the idea of cloning web content
prepared by course coordinators (or other course developers) originated. The
reasons for conducting this online “Shared Content” experiment were many,
including pedagogical, technical, and administrative considerations. From a
coordinator’s perspective, this approach appears to be an efficient way of
ensuring greater consistency across sections of large-enrollment multi-section
courses while simultaneously encouraging use of available online tools.

Initiation of Blended Courses at the AUB School of Nursing
Prof. Sana
Marini (School of Nursing)
In line with the trend
towards online teaching which is in response to community need, the School of Nursing at AUB has initiated the first
blended nursing course. This is likely the first step towards the
creation of an online nursing program that can serve the students in the
country as well as in the region. In
this presentation I will discuss my experience as a course facilitator
conducting a blended course for the first time.
I met face-to-face with the participants in this course only 23% of the time and
still effective learning took place. I will also present the results of a
survey conducted to determine
students’ perception and evaluation of this course.

Moodle: a new Learning Management System for AUB
Dr. Rosângela Silva (ACC - AUB)
AUB has adopted the use of a new Learning Management System (LMS) called Moodle to gradually replace
WebCT. Learning management systems offer
instructors several ways to manage their courses in an online environment: by
uploading course material, conducting class discussions, communicating with
students, and holding exams online.
Students can log on to their courses anytime, from any computer with an
Internet connection. Moodle is an open-source with excellent
features and is easily managed by both instructors and students. This presentation will discuss the reasons
why AUB is moving to this new LMS, present the various stages of the migration
plan, show what Moodle courses look
like, and demonstrate some of the many resources it offers.

Experience in teaching MVU Courses at AUB
Prof.
Hassan Artail and Prof. Karim Kabalan (FEA)
Few faculty members in the
ECE department at AUB developed four courses as part of the MVU (Mediterranean Virtual University)
project, sponsored by the European Union. Out of these four courses that were
introduced online through the Moodle course management software, two
were actually offered to AUB students. This presentation will discuss the
experience of the instructors with the Moodle software in terms of delivering
course material to students online. The presentation will also include a
presentation of the feedback obtained from students on the use of the
facilities of Moodle, in addition to a general evaluation of the
appropriateness of offering courses online without implementing certain
provisions.
