WebCT Supported Courses: Design and Development Issues
Ms.
Randa Salamoun Sioufi
(SOSB)
“The purpose of this presentation is to
introduce the use of WebCT in general,
to focus on how I use WebCT
to provide my students with a unique workspace where I give them an
access to all tools and resources that they need for the course, and
to show how I use WebCT to support class sessions.
This personal experience will show how the use of technology in
teaching can 1) enrich the learning experience for both students and
faculty and 2) facilitate the administrative and mundane tasks that
are unavoidable and that become particularly time consuming for
large classes.”

Alternate Ways of Learning: Using WebCT
and Digital Technology to Encourage Student Participation
Dr. Karen Pinto (FAS)
“In this
presentation I will show how the use of WebCT encourages
self-learning through active online discussion and participation.
One of the biggest problems we face in CVSP courses is getting
students to actually read the assigned texts. Another problem is
convincing students that they can think for themselves instead of
relying on cheat sheets and other people's notes. Contrary to
popular thinking, WebCT actually mitigates cheating. In fact, with
encouragement and special incentives, discussion boards enable
students to blossom and realize their own potential. There is no
better way to encourage the love of learning than to show students
how much fun it is to wrestle with ideas.”

New Approaches for Communicating
Ideas in Learning Environments -
Dr. Roman Kulchitsky (FAS)
“The presentation
will focus on the Solis Initiative and my use of hypertext
technology in the classroom. My intent is to highlight how
videoconferencing and hypertext technologies can support a course
taught in the classic German or British university sense of an
intense, semi-public articulation.”
