CONFERENCE

Bioethics In Theory and in Real Life

The Ethics Matters Initiative at the Faculty of Medicine and Medical Center cordially invite you to a web-conference entitled: "Bioethics In Theory and in Real Life: Metamorphosis in Thinking About the End of Life" by Margaret Battin.

Margaret Battin, PhD

Distinguished Professor of Philosophy & Adjunct Professor of Internal Medicine, Division of Medical Ethics and Humanities, University of Utah

Summary

What's the case for and against physician-assisted suicide, or aid-in-dying, for the terminally ill and others with serious medical problems? The first part of this talk will examine the issue in theory, and then, with the aid of the short video Metamorphosis, explore how events in real life can radically challenge one's previous intellectual commitments.
Margaret Battin, is a respected philosopher and bioethicist. It just so happened that the scholarship that she spent her life pursuing studying, end-of-life issues and ethics, has now come into play in her real life--as a result of a tragedy that has befallen her husband, who suffered a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the neck down.

All are welcome!
