Windows XP tips and tricks: Add familiar icons back to your desktop

Did a favorite icon (such as My Computer, My Documents, or the Recycle Bin) disappear from your desktop? Use these steps to restore it.

To restore you icons

1. Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.

2. In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Desktop tab, and then click Customize Desktop.

3. In the Desktop icons area in the Desktop Items dialog box, select the desktop icons that you want to appear on your desktop.

4. Click OK.

5. Click OK again.
