Dr. Franklin T. Moore
Prof. Franklin T. Moore was born in Bridgeton, New Jersey in 1868. He graduated from Princeton with a B.A. in 1891. That year he came to the Syrian Protestant College, as AUB was called then, and there he initially headed the English Department.

After going back to the US and completing his medical studies at Jefferson College in 1897, he returned to the SPC and chaired the Dept. of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Physiology.

A brilliant practitioner, Dr. Moore married Ethel H. Jessup, had five children, and spent the rest of his life in Beirut. He passed away in 1915.

The Collection
Dr. Moore began photographing the campus in 1892, as it was in those years. He showed the upper campus buildings in various stages of completion: Dodge Hall before the addition of its extension, the Lee Observatory in its lonely seaside location, the Assembly Hall before Post Hall was built (1897). His camera captured the vast size of the new campus, the undeveloped northeastern mountains, the unpaved Bliss Street, the illustrated history of growth that intrigues and attracts for its beauty and because of the changes which have taken place over the last one hundred years.
