• The Financial Times of May 1, 2005 reported on US and Syrian relations after the Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon. Several analysts interviewed in the article saw that the withdrawal could pave the way to the collapse of the Syrian regime. Yahya Sadowski, of the American University of Beirut, said US policy could be described as “constructive instability,” with the Bush administration believing in general that democracy could emerge out of turmoil.
