The Daily Star of April 1 published an article about
unconfirmed information with the opposition that Syria plans
to keep its influence in Lebanon despite the withdrawal of
its intelligence services by using secret intelligence
operations outside Beirut. The article interviewed Timor
Goksel, a long-serving former UN adviser in Lebanon and who
is now teaching at AUB. Goksel said that Syria still has
interests in Lebanon and that he wouldn't be surprised if
the evacuated intelligence centers are being replaced.
