April, 2005

  • Al-Liwa of April 12 reported about the effect of the political situation in Lebanon on the academic year in universities.
    The paper interviewed several officials from different universities in Lebanon, including Dean Maroun Kissirwani from AUB. Dean Kissirwani said that AUB is trying to make-up for lost tuition hours by increasing tuition duration and canceling exam preparation holidays.

December, 2004

  • As-Safir of December 11 reported on the first meeting of the board members of the "Lebanese League of Universities" at its center at the Islamic University of Beirut. Dean Maroun Kisirwani represented AUB.

  • The Daily Star of December 8 published an article addressing democracy at AUB, which received $ 1.8 million from the US Congress this year, and where Hizbullah party members and supporters operate one of the largest student clubs under the name Cultural Club of the South. The article interviewed AUB students and faculty members, including Dr. Maroun Kisirwani, dean of students, who said that there is little the university can do to make students tone down anti-Americanism and that American policy is forcing them to hate America. Associate Provost, Waddah Nasr, said that AUB is the best argument for democracy.
