FSM Behavioral Modeling Approach for Web Applications (FSM-BMWA Approach)-Sukaina Abdul Ilah Al-Nasrawi

On February 27, 2007, at noon, Sukaina Abdul Ilah Al-Nasrawi successfully defended her master's degree thesis, entitled "FSM Behavioral Modeling Approach for Web Applications." The examining committee consisted of Professors Joumana Dargham (adviser), Marcel Karam, and Wassim Masri. The defense took place in West Hall in the presence of members of Al-Nasrawi's family, Computer Science Department faculty members, and graduate students.

The thesis addressed the area of web applications modeling, in particular behavioral modeling. It reviewed the existing outstanding web design methodologies and showed that although each one of them provides a systematic design approach for web applications, they still suffer from a behavioral modeling flaw. The thesis proposed a new modeling approach, called FSM-BMWA (FSM Behavioral Modeling Approach for Web Applications), which explicitly separates between the static and dynamic navigational behavior of the targeted web application.

Al-Nasrawi made good use of her master's degree journey. While pursuing her degree, she wrote two papers under the guidance of her adviser. The first paper, entitled "Web Engineering: An Aspect-Oriented Approach," was published by the Seventh International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems in 2005. The second paper, entitled "FSM Behavioral Modeling Approach for Hypermedia Web Applications," was published by the IEEE Computer Society in proceedings of the Advanced International Conference on Telecommunications and International Conference on Internet and Web Applications and Services in 2006.
